A 44-year-old taxi driver was found murdered in Gurgaon on Thursday morning. Police said a preliminary investigation revealed he was shot in the head at close range by an unidentified defendant.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Singh, a resident of Rithoj village. He had been unemployed for more than two months, police said.
“The victim was shot in the back of the neck. He was wounded by two bullets,” police said.
The incident was reported around 6 a.m. when Singh was found dead near the Rithoj village dhani (cluster of houses or hamlet) near his house.
Sanjay’s brother Randhir Singh said the victim left the house around 7.30pm on Wednesday to run an errand. “He took Rs 200 from his wife and left saying he would be back soon. At 5:30 a.m. the next morning, a neighbor informed me that he was lying in a pool of blood near a neighbour’s house in dhani village,” Randhir Singh told FIR.
Police said the family tried to contact him by phone when he did not return that night and then decided to resume the search in the morning, assuming he must have spent the night at a friend’s house.
Gurgaon Police Spokesperson Subhash Boken said an FIR was registered against unidentified persons under Section 302 (Murder) of IPC and Sections 25/54/59 of the Law on weapons at Bhondsi police station on Thursday.
“An investigation has been launched. The victim’s body was released to the family after the autopsy,” Boken said.
