“This massive cost reduction will allow us to deploy tens of thousands of AVs across China. We are heading towards a future where taking a robotaxi will cost half the cost of taking a taxi today,” said Robin Lico-founder and CEO of Baidu, at Baidu World 2022, the company’s flagship technology conference.
Like Baidu 6e AV generation, the Apollo RT6 differs from previous generations which were also retrofitted to conventional vehicles. The steering wheel-free design frees up more space to create unique interiors, allowing the installation of additional seats, vending machines, desks or game consoles. With a length of 4760mm and a wheelbase of 2830mm, the Apollo RT6, first for the rider, offers comfort with independent rear seats, ample rear legroom of 1050mm, a purely flat floor and an intelligent interaction system. The exterior of the Apollo RT6 features a revolutionary look that seamlessly integrates sensors on the sunroof along with interactive lights and smart power sliding doors to further enhance the driving experience.
Apollo RT6 incorporates Baidu’s most advanced L4 autonomous driving system, powered by automotive-grade dual computing units with computing power of up to 1200 TOPS. The vehicle uses 38 sensors, including 8 LiDAR and 12 cameras, to achieve highly accurate long-range detection from all sides. Apollo RT6’s safety and reliability is backed by a wealth of real-world data, a total test mileage of over 32 million kilometers (~20 million miles) covered by Baidu’s AV to date .
Speaking at Baidu World 2022, Zhenyu LiSenior Vice President of Baidu and General Manager of Intelligent Driving Group (IDG), said Apollo RT6’s self-driving capability is equivalent to a qualified driver with 20 years of experience.
Apollo RT6 is the first vehicle model built on Xinghe, the automotive E/E architecture developed by Baidu specifically for fully autonomous driving. The vehicle is 100% automotive grade and offers full redundancy of both hardware and self-driving software.
The creation of Apollo RT6 marks another milestone for Baidu in achieving its goal of providing safer, greener and more efficient mobility solutions. As the world’s largest robotaxi service providerApollo Go has expanded to 10 cities in China since its launch in 2020, including all first-tier cities, and provided more than 1 million orders.
Founded in 2000, Baidu’s mission is to simplify the complicated world through technology. Baidu is a leading artificial intelligence company with a strong Internet base, listed on NASDAQ under “BIDU” and HKEX under “9888”. One Baidu ADS represents eight ordinary Class A shares.
