The Ministry of Transport will work closely with the Ministry of Local Government, Councils, Land Transport Authority and Fiji Roads Authority to implement the open taxi stand system.

In an effort to provide uniformity and better opportunities for taxi drivers and operators, Minister Faiyaz Koya traveled to Ba and Lautoka to see the proposed sites for open taxi stations.

Koya says the Open Taxi Rank system will ensure the safety of taxi drivers and operators to work and operate with increased access to bases while reducing illegal operators.

He says the open taxi stands will further allow taxis to operate in their designated areas on a first-in-first-out basis and provide operators with opportunities to attract more business.

Koya adds that the start date of the system will be announced when the work on the marking and reorganization of the open ranks is completed.

A visit to the Nadi site was also planned as part of this scoping exercise.
