SINGAPORE: ComfortDelGro customers and drivers were unable to access the taxi operator’s mobile app and call booking service on Saturday afternoon (May 7) due to a technical issue.

“Our app and call booking services began to experience a technical failure due to an increase in booking volume around 1 p.m. today,” said Tammy Tan, head of brand and communications at ComfortDelGro Corporation group, in response to questions from CNA.

“We have since corrected the problem and both booking services are now operational.”

ComfortDelGro, Singapore’s largest taxi operator, said in a Facebook post around 6:20 p.m. that app and call booking services were back to normal.

“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused. Note that we are expecting a high booking volume this weekend and ask for your patience and understanding,” he added.

Ms Tan said ComfortDelGro is monitoring the situation closely.

A customer told CNA that she experienced issues with the app around 1:15 p.m. She had to hail a taxi to get from Katong to Hougang after being unable to book one.

‘There wasn’t even a way to book a taxi so we were dependent on street hail,’ said the customer who only wanted to be known as Ms Savior. “The app couldn’t even get my location at first.”

Ms Savior added that she had uninstalled and reinstalled the app but still showed an error message saying there was a problem connecting to the server.

The reservations hotline was also down when CNA tried to call around 4:30 p.m.

ComfortDelGro, Singapore’s largest taxi operator, recently relaunched its mobile app under a new name, CDG Zig. It combines the taxi booking app and the company’s now-disused lifestyle app, Zig.
