Dubai sees sharp increase in business and leisure travel – News

As Expo 2020 approaches, emirate expects further increase in tourism

As the world battles new variants of Covid-19 and growing cases, Dubai has secured a place among the safest vacation destinations – and the proof is in the tourism boom.

Since Dubai eased travel restrictions, the city has seen an increase in the number of international visitors. And with Expo 2020 Dubai fast approaching, Dubai expects a further increase in tourism.

From Abra drivers to taxi drivers, the people of the emirate are eager to welcome tourists.

“I had the feeling that it would take a few more months for tourists to come to Dubai. But now people from many countries have already started coming here, ”said Abdul Kalam, a driver from Abra.

For the city’s taxi drivers, the increase in tourism also means they are busier than before.

A taxi driver working for the Metro Taxi company said, “Due to many incoming travelers, the airport taxis are running out of numbers and we then have the option of taking customers to their hotels and accommodations.”

Hotels, service apartments and vacation homes are also seeing an increase in bookings after a difficult year.

Vinayak Mahtani, CEO of bnbme holiday homes, said: “With the main source markets blocked for travel to the UAE, we have seen a drop in occupancy. We are now seeing more tourists compared to last year. “

“The previous year was devoted to stays and lodging for those stranded here. With an increase in the number of guests, property prices have stabilized as well.”

Tour operators have confirmed that business travel has also been steadily increasing since last month, with inquiries from Asia, Africa and Europe.

Nasser Badawi, Managing Director of Avanti Tourism, said: “Dubai has become a venue for conferences thanks to the excellent service and facilities of the airlines. We can also expect a large number of people from China and Japan once they relax their travel restrictions. “

Mir Wasim Raja, Director of MICE & Holidays at Galadari International Travel Services, said tourists from the Indian subcontinent, Russia and Europe have started to pour in and their numbers are expected to increase soon, thanks to Dubai’s many attractions. .

“Many attractions have been added to Dubai, such as Ain Dubai, View at the Palm and the world’s deepest swimming pool, to name a few,” he said. “The city is also known to be a mecca for shoppers. With the shopping festival starting soon, we can expect to see a large number of shoppers in Dubai.
