PANJIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho reiterated on Saturday that GoaMiles’ app-based taxi service will start at Dabolim airport from next week.

Godinho said the decision to use Ola and Uber app taxis will be made later and claimed the decision to launch app-based taxi aggregator services was in line with instructions from the Bombay High Court in Goa.

He also said that the Ministry of Tourism has signed a 25-year contract with the GoaMiles and it must be honoured.

Furthermore, the minister informed that he has offered airport taxi operators i.e. United Taximen Union to join the GoaMiles app.

“Whether they agree or not, I will continue to launch GoaMiles at Dabolim airport from next week,” he said, adding that the High Court had been informed of the decision of the government to launch the application services.

The minister said passengers at Dabolim airport will benefit from both GoaMiles options and prepaid taxis.

“Let the two counters be side by side,” he added.

He also mentioned that Mopa International Airport built by GMR is a private airport and they will take a call whether or not to start Ola and Uber app taxi services.

“We will not interfere in that,” he added.
