UBER today announced the launch of its Local Cab product in Southern Cumbria.
Windermere and Kendal are the target areas, meaning Uber will allow passengers in both cities to book travel with a local taxi company through the Uber app.
Following a successful Local Cab pilot earlier this year, which saw launches in six cities across the UK, Uber is now expanding the service to other parts of the country.
Anyone opening the Uber app in Windermere or Kendal will be offered the Local Cab option, which connects them to the local taxi company Lakeside Taxis.
This is the first time that visitors will be able to book travel through the Uber app.
In order to meet the growing demand for travel and to expand the use of its app beyond the 40 UK cities in which it currently operates, Uber is looking to work with local operators.
Nigel Brett, Managing Director of Lakeside Taxis, said: âWe are proud to bring Local Cab to Windermere and Kendal. For anyone visiting Windermere or Kendal and already using the Uber app, Local Cab will make it easy for them to book a ride with a local operator.

Ash Kebriti, UK Managing Director of Uber, said: âThe Local Cab pilot has proven to be a success for local operators, passengers and local economies.
âLocal operators have noticed an increase in travel demand and are now actively recruiting new drivers, which has a positive impact on the local economy.
âWe are now excited to roll out the product to more towns and cities across the UK. ”
