Just Talkin’ Lagniappe October 6, 2022

JT isn’t sure if we should call this year’s NSU Demon football team the Come Back Kids or the Cardiac Kids.
Their last two home wins have been intense.
In last week’s win over Nicholls, the Demons scored two touchdowns with just over a minute and a half remaining. This phenomenal finish ranks among the best comebacks in demon football history.
This is the first time… in a very, very long time, the Demons have been ranked first in the league standings. They are 2-0 in conference play.
The Demons will play non-conference this week when they visit eastern Illinois.
There is simply no way to explain it!
JT talks about plans he has heard to provide curb-to-curb taxi service in the parish. It makes about as much sense as a traffic circle on Texas Street.
JT is more than a little disturbed after reading the Sunday newspaper’s account of the LSU-Auburn football game. State papers and many LSU fans call it “an ugly win” that JT doesn’t understand. In the record books, it will be entered as a victory. Critics of LSU coach Brian Kelly aren’t happy with his coaching, but JT wonders if they would have suffered a “nice loss” instead. Monday morning quarterbacks who have never set foot on a football field simply don’t like Kelly and probably never will.
Speaking of LSU football, JT read an article about former Tiger coach Ed Orgeron, then watched the accompanying video of an interview he did. He told this story about himself. He was called into a meeting with LSU athletic director Scott Woodward knowing he was going to be fired. Woodward didn’t mince words and told him that he had been fired, but could take the $17.2 million buyout with him. Coach O said excitedly, “Where’s the door?” Typical Coach O.
Some people are never happy. JT was scrolling through social media and came across a group that posts about the roads in Natchitoches Parish. JT was surprised to see pictures of part of the new Bermuda Road and read that people were complaining that it would now become a race track.
Who is a good steward of public money?
It’s not New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. She recently spent $30,000 on first-class plane tickets for two trips to Europe.
JT reads that it is city policy not to fly first class, but the mayor has refused to reimburse the city for these expenses.
Then there is Governor John Bel Edward who last week traveled to London on state business and attended the Saints-Vikings game. Edwards flew by coach and paid around $1,800.
JT knows you’re probably tired of hearing about football… BUT…. Did you realize the Lakeview High football team is 4-1 and on a four-game winning streak this season? They have a huge district game on Friday when they host the Winnfield Tigers, also 4-1.
