Passengers can travel free of fare on the King County Subway, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Pierce Transit, and Seattle Streetcar as part of New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Whether you’re ringing New Years from home with friends and family, or planning a night out on the town, we’re teaming up across the region to provide free transportation and get everyone home safely to New Years Eve, “King County Executive Dow Constantine said in a statement. “It’s our way of thanking our riders and giving those celebrating late into the New Year a safe alternative to driving. “
Masks are mandatory on public transport vehicles and while waiting for public transport service.
King County Metro: Buses will run on a Sunday schedule and will be free from 4:00 a.m. on Friday (New Years Eve) until 4:00 a.m. on Saturday. (New Year’s Day).
Other free metro services include DART, Via to Transit, Ride Pingo to Transit, Community Van, and Access. Via to Transit will operate until 2 a.m. on Saturday to accommodate New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Metro bus cash registers and ORCA card readers will be covered to remind customers not to pay.
Sound Transit: Light rail link and Sound Transit Express buses are free from 4:00 am Friday to 2:00 am Saturday.
Sound Transit will operate an extended Link light rail service on New Year’s Eve, with a 15-minute late service. The last southbound trip will leave Northgate Station at 1:46 am. The last northbound train will leave Angle Lake at 1:37 am. Sound Transit will also extend the service on certain ST Express bus lines. For more information, visit the Sound Transit website.
Community transportation: buses will operate according to statutory holiday schedules. For New Years Eve, buses and the DART service will run on Sundays and will be free from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Pierce Transit: The paratransit bus and SHUTTLE services will operate on Sunday and will be free all day Friday, from the start of the service to the end of the service.
Seattle Streetcar: Both streetcars will run for free on New Years Eve and will operate regular hours of service.
The King County Water Taxi will not operate on Fridays and Saturdays.
The Seattle Monorail will collect regular fare and is expected to operate from Westlake to Seattle Center until 10:30 p.m. on New Years Eve. Service from the center to Westlake will run from 12:20 a.m. to 1 a.m. after events at the center.
New Years Service
On Saturdays, transit customers are reminded that buses and rail services will operate on regular Saturday schedules and that a valid regular fare will be required on all services. Details are posted on Metro’s Vacation and Reduced Service page.
On New Years Day, Sound Transit will operate the ST Express and Link light rail on Saturdays. Tacoma Link will operate on a Sunday schedule.
