Grigorios Sahinidis is a taxi driver who has driven over 4.6 million kilometers with the same Mercedes Benz 240D built in 1976!

If you hear that a man has driven millions of kilometers in the same car, you certainly wouldn’t believe it, since after a few years most – if not all – change cars.

And even…

Grigorios Sahinidis from Thessaloniki, not only has driven millions of kilometers in the same car, but it is the car he uses as a taxi driver.

In particular, he traveled 4.6 million kilometers with the same car and was even asked by Mercedes to “donate” his vehicle to his museum in Stuttgart while he broke the world record for kilometers traveled for all. the types of cars on the planet.

It was in 1981 that Sahinidis, with the help of his brother, brought the used car back from Germany (already 4 years old at the time).

For 23 years he served several officials and celebrities, such as then MP and later Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, German footballer Gerd Müller, Despo Diamantidou and Marinella.

It also transported humanitarian goods almost four hundred times to war-torn Serbia.

In 2004, after handing over the car to the Mercedes museum, he received a brand new C200 CDI model in exchange for President Alexander Paufler.

Just A Car Guy: The current Mercedes-Benz high mileage champion is Gregorios Sachinidis, a Greek taxi driver who holds the known record of over 2.8 million miles in his 1976 Mercedes-Benz.

For 23 years, the taxi was his profession and financial difficulties did not allow him to replace it with a car of the same brand.

He has made countless trips abroad, which is why he has such a large number of kilometers.

“When I took the taxi, there were few Mercedes driving around Greece, although I had the advantage of speaking German, because I lived in Germany for 15 years,” he said.

“So I worked with travel agencies, who sent me clients to transport them within Greece, but also to surrounding countries.

“I transferred businessmen to Skopje, Germany, to Banja Luka, I have been to Turkey eight times and over 90 times to Bulgaria.

“In fact, in 1993, driving through war-torn Yugoslavia, I accompanied a humanitarian aid truck to Belgrade, carrying the mission escort, businessman Stefanos Milios, the only person to have a permit to enter the country at that time. “

For 23 years, the Mercedes has been his inseparable partner.

This, he said, is also due to the proper maintenance of the taxi, which he oversaw as an auto mechanic.

“I remember in 1989, when it had snowed a lot in Thessaloniki and for two weeks there were no cars or buses running. At that time, we only worked ten taxis, ”he said.

“I took a girl from Mitropoleos to take him to Perea. In the middle of the road, the traffic police stopped us and told us that the road was not safe.

“I finally took it at my own risk, because I was used to snow.

“On the way back I found nine girls who couldn’t find a way back and were frozen. They managed to get into the taxi, after sitting two in front and seven behind!
